Baseball Game Preview: Penncrest Lions vs. Conestoga Pioneers

The Penncrest Lions will head out on the road to take on the Conestoga Pioneers at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Penncrest has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Conestoga will arrive with three straight victories.

Penncrest is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell 12-8 to Lower Merion on Tuesday. Surprisingly, this marked the Lions' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Nash Grant made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Jack Glatts also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, it was close, but last Tuesday Conestoga sidestepped Cardinal O'Hara for a 10-8 win.

Henry Fuerst looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Kurt Tharnish was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Chase Cherny was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

Penncrest's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Conestoga, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.

Penncrest was able to grind out a solid win over Conestoga in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 11-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
