Softball Recap: Covington Academy Takes Down Trinity Prep in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Covington Academy had no trouble coming through when it counted. They blew past the Trinity Prep Lions 16-2 on Monday. The Bulldogs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Bryleigh Bragg was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

In other batting news, Peyton Ledoux was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (four). Another player making a difference was Ryleigh Marks, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Covington Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win made it two in a row for Covington Academy and bumps their season record up to 7-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Trinity Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-9.

Covington Academy will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Lions: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled on Thursday.
