The Fort Morgan Mustangs will square off against the Sterling Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Fort Morgan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.3 runs per game this season.

Royer Alvarez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jadin Carrera and Riley Elrick did most of the damage at the plate: Carrera got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI, while Elrick went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That stolen base was Elrick's first of the season. Cooper Chisum was another key player, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with four runs.
Fort Morgan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eaton only managed seven.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Sterling ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Liberty Common, sneaking past 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since May 16, 2025.
Logan Rasmussen looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Dayten DiOrio was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two doubles and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Casyn Nolan, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Fort Morgan's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Sterling, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Fort Morgan has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Sterling struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Fort Morgan came up short against Sterling when the teams last played back in April of 2025, falling 10-6. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
