The Maine South Hawks are taking a road trip to square off against the Glenbrook South Titans at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Maine South is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Maine South had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Highland Park on Tuesday. The Hawks never let the Giants get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Hawks not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 3rd (when they won 14-4).
Sibelle Stevens tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Christina Piotrowski and Aubrey Mazza did most of the damage at the plate: Piotrowski went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Mazza went 1-for-2 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Santore, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Maine South kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highland Park only managed one hit.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Glenbrook South made sure to put some runs up on the board against Evanston on Tuesday. The Titans walked away with a 10-5 win over the Wildkits. The Titans haven't had any issues with the Wildkits recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Addy Hurley made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Hurley was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, Glenbrook South got a big performance out of Ruby Garrett, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Carlin Endre also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Maine South is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Glenbrook South, their record is now 3-16.
Maine South couldn't quite finish off Glenbrook South in their previous matchup two weeks ago and fell 12-10. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
