Softball Recap: Volcano Vista Takes Down Ranked Sandia

Volcano Vista faced Sandia in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Hawks were the clear victors by a 19-9 margin over the Matadors. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by ten runs or more this season.

Audrianna Jim was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Jim was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Genevieve Tapia was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Jewel Candelaria was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Volcano Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 9-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Volcano Vista has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Sandia, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Volcano Vista will host Rio Rancho at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sandia, they will be playing at home against Santa Fe at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Matadors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Demons have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
