Baseball Recap: Homestead Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Homestead, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Wapahani Raiders on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won four in a row.

Mason Gutmann looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk).

On the hitting side, Zane Wirges and Johnnie Ankenbruck did most of the damage at the plate: Wirges scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Ankenbruck went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The dominant performance also gave Wirges a new career-high in RBI (two). Cole Kintz was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Homestead now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Wapahani, their loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Homestead beat the Raiders by a score of 3-2 later that day.
