Baseball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is Hutchinson-Central Tech's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

City Honors typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Hutchinson-Central Tech proved too difficult a challenge. They blew past the Centaurs 15-2. Considering the Engineers have won eight matches by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Nathan Mulligan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hutchinson-Central Tech got a massive performance out of AJ Russo, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Russo a new career-high. Nico Soto was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Hutchinson-Central Tech is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.9 runs over those games. Having lost for the first time this season, City Honors fell to 12-1.

Hutchinson-Central Tech wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 0-0 win against Burgard on the 17th. As for City Honors, they are taking a road trip to challenge West Seneca West at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Centaurs are facing the Warhawks at the right time seeing as the Warhawks are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
