Football Game Preview: Burleson Elks vs. Grapevine Mustangs + How To Watch

The Burleson Elks will head out on the road to take on the Grapevine Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Last Friday, Burleson was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 34-30 to Mansfield Summit. While losing is never fun, the Elks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while the Jaguars are ranked 108th).

Burleson's defeat came about despite a quality game from Andrew Sparks, who rushed for 116 yards and two scores, and also threw for 146 yards on 11 of 26 attempts.

Burleson didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jaden Thurston and Brayden Brown. Brown is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season. Another thorn in Mansfield Summit's side was Donya Armstrong, who made 13 total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Grapevine was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were beaten by Mansfield Summit 58-14. The Mustangs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 51-14.

Although Grapevine took the loss, they still got scores from Brady Kays and Jailen Holmes.

Burleson's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Grapevine, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Burleson was able to grind out a solid victory over Grapevine when the teams last played back in October of 2024, winning 9-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Elks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
