Softball Game Preview: John Carroll Patriots vs. McDonogh Eagles

The John Carroll Patriots will venture away from home to square off against the McDonogh Eagles at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. John Carroll is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

Things were looking good for John Carroll after they put the first runs on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 12-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mount de Sales Academy. Patriots fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Sailors since on Wednesday.

Ryan Pindell was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. Gianna Gargano also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, McDonogh was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 13-3 to Archbishop Spalding.

McDonogh's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for John Carroll, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.

Everything went John Carroll's way against McDonogh in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, as John Carroll made off with a 10-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
