Softball Recap: Mariner Find Success

Mariner's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Port Charlotte Pirates a 5-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-1 back in March.

Gabi Winters made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 19 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morgan Tucker, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Kylie Dominello was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Mariner's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Port Charlotte, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mariner will challenge Island Coast at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Port Charlotte, they will face off against Charlotte at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
