Basketball Recap: Uvalde Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) vs. La Vernia Bears

While losing is never fun, the Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1080th, while the Bears are ranked 360th).
Uvalde got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Natalia Cabralez and Lola Pose, who each put up seven points.
Lacey Matney continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for La Vernia, going 9-for-18 on her way to 20 points in addition to eight boards and six steals. Matney is becoming a predictor of La Vernia's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 17-5 (and 4-5 when she doesn't). Alana Afflerbach was another key player, dropping a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Uvalde's defeat dropped their record down to 15-18. As for La Vernia, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-10 record this season.
