Basketball Game Preview: Minarets Mustangs vs. Sierra Chieftains

Minarets hasn't had much luck against Sierra recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Minarets Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Sierra Chieftains at 8:00 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Minarets ended up a good deal behind Fowler and lost 64-49. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Sierra entered their tilt with Chowchilla on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They strolled past the Tribe with points to spare, taking the game 70-56. Given the Chieftains' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 503rd, while the Tribe are ranked 1040th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sierra pushed their record up to 13-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points per game. As for Minarets, their loss dropped their record down to 10-7.

Minarets suffered a grim 73-52 defeat to Sierra in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Minarets was down 46-21.
