Basketball Recap: Excelsior Classical Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Shadiamond Francis Service and Arihanna Williams

Excelsior Classical Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 31-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cristo Rey Research Triangle Bulls. The Flying Lions were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulls earlier this season, when they won 32-15.

Arihanna Williams and Shadiamond Francis Service certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Williams posted eight points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals, while Francis Service scored eight points and four steals. That was a full 40% of Excelsior Classical Academy's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Cristo Rey Research Triangle can attribute much of their success to Yari Fortune, who earned six points along with 20 boards and three blocks. The dominant performance gave Fortune a new career-high in rebounds.

Excelsior Classical Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Cristo Rey Research Triangle, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-10.

Excelsior Classical Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 26-16 loss against Discovery Charter School on the 28th. As for Cristo Rey Research Triangle, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 34-23 defeat against Burlington Christian Academy on the 28th.
