Basketball Recap: Ardrey Kell Comes Up Short

Ardrey Kell has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 62-59 heartbreaker at the hands of the South Mecklenburg Sabres. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Knights have suffered since February 23, 2024.

South Mecklenburg's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jim Gatehouse, who went 5 of 11 to rack up 16 points and five boards. Gatehouse continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Muja Williams, who went 6 for 7 on his way to 16 points.

Ardrey Kell's loss dropped their record down to 17-5. As for South Mecklenburg, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-9.

Looking ahead, Ardrey Kell will be playing at home against Olympic at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Olympic knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Ardrey Kell likes a good challenge. As for South Mecklenburg, they will head out on the road to take on Ballantyne Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Mecklenburg is facing Ballantyne Ridge at the right time seeing as Ballantyne Ridge is stuck on a 19-game losing streak.
