Basketball Recap: Gretna East Piles Up the Points Against Lincoln Northwest

A well-balanced attack led Gretna East over Lincoln Northwest in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Gretna East Griffins blew the Lincoln Northwest Falcons out of the water with a 74-31 final score. That looming 74-31 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Griffins yet this season.

Talan Hovie was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine assists. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Rice, who went 5 of 6 on his way to 11 points.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Gretna East was working as a unit and finished the game with 24 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Lincoln Northwest lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jaymi White-Soto, who posted ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayden Wynn, who put up seven points.

The win was the third in a row for Gretna East, bringing their record for this year to 7-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.7 points per game. As for Lincoln Northwest, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Gretna East didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-51 loss against Norris on the 10th. As for Lincoln Northwest, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 76-63 defeat against York on the 9th.
