Baseball Game Preview: Central Catholic Rams vs. Sandy Pioneers

Central Catholic is 8-2 against Sandy since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Rams will face off against the Pioneers at 5:00 p.m. Central Catholic's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Sandy's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Central Catholic turned things around against Reynolds on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Raiders 3-2.

Sam Smith was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sandy). Everything went their way against David Douglas on Tuesday as they made off with an 18-6 win. The Pioneers haven't had any issues with the Scots recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Central Catholic now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Sandy, the win got them back to even at 8-8.

Central Catholic skirted past Sandy 2-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
