Basketball Recap: Pearland Takes Down Ridge Point in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Pearland rose to the challenge on Monday. They enjoyed a cozy 47-32 victory over the Ridge Point Panthers. Given the Oilers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Panthers are ranked 504th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pearland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Eliece Perry led the charge by dropping a double-double with 19 points and 17 boards. Perry is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 45% in the last 11 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Shiloh Grays, who posted 13 points along with eight rebounds and five steals.

Pearland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Sydney Person and Caitlin Ochuwa certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Person went 5 of 12 en route to 13 points and five boards, while Ochuwa put up seven points and five rebounds. That was a full 40.6% of Ridge Point's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.

Pearland is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 29-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.7 points over those games. As for Ridge Point, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-19.

Coming up, Pearland will take on Summer Creek on Thursday. Summer Creek will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Pearland surely won't give up without a fight. Ridge Point does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
