Baseball Game Preview: Excelsior Charter Eagles vs. Big Bear Bears

For the second straight game, Excelsior Charter will face off against Big Bear. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bears at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Excelsior Charter is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.

Excelsior Charter lost 14-3 to Big Bear on Tuesday.

For Big Bear's part, Jackson Wortham made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Wortham has become a key player for Big Bear: the team is 4-2 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Wortham was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Big Bear got a massive performance out of Brennen Berge, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 4-for-5. Those three stolen bases gave Berge a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kobe Alvarez, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

Big Bear was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Big Bear's win ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-5. As for Excelsior Charter, their loss dropped their record down to 2-13.
