Recap: Matanzas Pirates vs. Ponte Vedra Sharks
The Matanzas Pirates were the 61-56 winner over the Ponte Vedra Sharks when they last played one another back in January of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. Matanzas took a 78-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ponte Vedra on Tuesday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Saturday (62), Matanzas still had to take the loss.
Several Pirates players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Henry Robinson Jr. , who shot 4-for-7 from long range and dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. The matchup was Robinson Jr. 's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rya'sir Jefferson , who scored 19 points along with eight assists.
Even though they lost, Matanzas were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Ponte Vedra's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sam Ritchie, who scored 14 points along with six assists. Another player making a difference was Maddox Palmer, who scored 12 points along with seven assists.
Matanzas are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4. As for Ponte Vedra, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Matanzas will head out on the road to face off against Seabreeze at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Seabreeze focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday. As for Ponte Vedra, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Raines at 7:30 p.m. on November 30th.
