Basketball Game Preview: Key West Conchs vs. NSU University Sharks

The Key West Conchs will head out on the road to take on the NSU University Sharks at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Key West has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since January 15.

Key West is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Barron Collier on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Key West was beaten by Barron Collier 52-18. While losing is never fun, the Conchs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 552nd, while the Cougars are ranked 242nd).

Meanwhile, NSU University unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 47-38 to Marathon.

Despite the defeat, NSU University saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Laly Luque went 6 of 8 on her way to 16 points. The match was Luque's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlize Coats, who posted six points and six steals.

Even though they lost, NSU University smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests.

Key West's loss dropped their record down to 1-18. As for NSU University, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 15-5.
