Basketball Game Preview: Taft Senators vs. Mercy McAuley Wolves

The Taft Senators will challenge the Mercy McAuley Wolves at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Taft is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.

Taft is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Aiken on Wednesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Taft was beaten by Aiken 52-13. The Senators were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-9.

Despite their loss, Taft saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. DiYannah Wright, who posted four points along with nine rebounds and seven steals, was perhaps the best of all. Those seven steals gave Wright a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Taryn White, who had four points and five boards.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mercy McAuley). They took their contest on Thursday with ease, bagging a 63-11 victory over Belmont. With the Wolves ahead 37-5 at the half, the match was all but over already.

Mercy McAuley is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.8 points per game. As for Taft, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.
