Sacramento Valley recap Oct. 9, 2012

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Willows, who took down 721st ranked Live Oak, 7-3. Ulises Esparza threw for 85 yards and one touchdown in the win.

Trinity moved up to 523 from 552 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Sacramento Valley. The Wolves were able to make the jump by beating Durham 48-9.

Jesse Cody was the best wideout in the league this week as Trinity topped the Trojans. Cody tallied one reception for 49 yards. Daniel Hill helped Trinity's passing attack out by catching one ball for 32 yards.

Romario Acosta provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Lions lost to the Honkers. He completed seven passes for 67 yards and also ran for 85 yards. Acosta's favorite target this week was Tyler Raymond, who caught three passes for 27 yards.

Cory Cook was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 151 yards as Jeremy Wardrip's team topped Durham. Josh Spagel also contributed to the rushing game with 71 yards on the ground.

Live Oak's Acosta and Aaron Pamma have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Sacramento Valley in both passing and receiving yards. Acosta has thrown for 647 yards this season, while Pamma has 12 catches for 290 yards. Cook from the Wolves leads the league in rushing with 776 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Dan Johnson's team takes on Trinity. At the moment, the Lions are in third, while the Wolves are in second.

Pierce extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Mt. Shasta, 35-7. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
