Mora is 8-2 against Mesa Vista since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Rangers/Rangerettes will take on the Trojans at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Mora took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top against Escalante by a score of 3-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Mora had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 25-16, 25-14, 28-26.
Meanwhile, Mesa Vista made easy work of Penasco on Thursday and carried off a 3-0 win.
Mesa Vista never let Penasco on the board, but things got pretty close in the first set. The match finished with set scores of 26-24, 25-15, 25-15.
Mora better focus on containing Bella Gallegos and Charlene Archuleta as the pair were huge in Mesa Vista's win. Gallegos had 12 digs, while Archuleta had seven digs and four aces. Archuleta has been hot, having posted two or more aces the last seven times she's played.
Mesa Vista was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 15 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 11 aces in seven consecutive matches.
Mora's record now sits at 7-10. As for Mesa Vista, they pushed their record up to 8-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Mora skirted past Mesa Vista 3-2 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rangers/Rangerettes since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
