Volleyball Recap: John Battle Trojans vs. Gate City Blue Devils

After flying high against Union last Tuesday, John Battle came back down to earth. The John Battle Trojans came up short against the Gate City Blue Devils on Thursday, falling 3-0. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blue Devils apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September.

John Battle was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Gate City work for it, especially in the first set. The match finished with set scores of 27-25, 25-18, 25-22.

Gate City got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Georgia Griffis out in front who had 13 digs and 17 assists. Griffis is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 12 or more in the last ten games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Webb, who had 19 assists.

John Battle has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season. As for Gate City, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-9.

John Battle has already played their next contest, a 3-0 defeat against Abingdon on the 15th. As for Gate City, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 3-1 victory against Eastside on the 14th.
