The Assumption Rockets will square off against the Bullitt East Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Assumption is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Assumption is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kentucky's top teams: Male, who was ranked 12th at the time (Assumption was ranked fifth). The Rockets fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 6-5 on Wednesday. The Rockets' loss signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.
Assumption saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lauren Satterly, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another was Jaelynn Oaks, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bullitt East). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Jeffersontown a 16-0 shutout on Wednesday. Considering Bullitt East has won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Mollie Johnston was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Katlyn McDonald was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.
Bullitt East always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .704. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Bullitt East has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Assumption, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-5.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Assumption hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Bullitt East struggles in that department as they've averaged .402. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
