Basketball Game Preview: Loretto Mustangs vs. Cookeville Cavaliers

Two dominant guards in Ally Weathers and Cara Lee Gilbert are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Loretto Mustangs will take on the Cookeville Cavaliers in a holiday battle at at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Loretto has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Loretto is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They enjoyed a cozy 69-55 victory over Moore County on Monday.

Loretto's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Weathers, who posted 25 points. Weathers' evening made it 17 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Libby Sanders was another key player, putting up 22 points.

Meanwhile, Cookeville blew past Oakland, posting a 71-35 win. That looming 71-35 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cavaliers yet this season.

Cookeville pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.1 points per game. As for Loretto, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
