Softball Recap: South Vermillion Extends Road Winning Streak to Seven

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but South Vermillion ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They skirted past the Fountain Central Mustangs 13-11. That's more bragging rights for the Wildcats, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

The team relied heavily on Cambree Stivers, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Layla Mackey was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

South Vermillion pushed their record up to 2-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Fountain Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

South Vermillion will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Mustangs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
