Brianna Adams and Shania Brown secure win for Liberty

Recap: Liberty Minutemen vs. Amherst County Lancers

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Liberty Christian, the Liberty Minutemen were happy to have found some success on Monday. They strolled past Amherst County with points to spare, taking the game 52-36. Given Liberty's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while Amherst County is ranked 261st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Liberty was led to victory by Brianna Adams and Shania Brown. Adams scored 16 points along with seven assists and five rebounds, while Brown dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. Brown is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least ten every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Brooke Harrison, who scored three points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.

Amherst County lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Hannah Hooper, who scored ten points along with two steals. Ania Thompson was another key contributor, scoring six points.

Liberty's victory bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Amherst County, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.

Liberty will head out on the road to face off against Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Heritage is coming into the game with four straight losses at home, meaning Liberty will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. As for Amherst County, they will head out on the road to square off against Rustburg at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Amherst County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Monday.
