Kennedy Catholic will head out on the road to square off against Iona Prep at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Kennedy Catholic headed into their last game having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but Salesian let them put that streak behind them. The Gaels put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 21-2 victory on Tuesday. The Gaels have beaten the Eagles the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Eagles has come to flipping the script.
Nolan Summer looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Kennedy Catholic got a massive performance out of Ryan D'Ambrosio, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. D'Ambrosio also brought in three RBI, which is notable because the Gaels are 2-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 2-3 otherwise. Dom Rubino also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Kennedy Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .538. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Iona Prep). Everything went their way against Cardinal Hayes on Tuesday as they made off with a 20-5 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Gaels considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Kendrick Jorge was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Devin Diaz was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.
Iona Prep is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Kennedy Catholic, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Kennedy Catholic has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .439. However, it's not like Iona Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .481. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Kennedy Catholic came up short against Iona Prep when the teams last played back in May of 2023, falling 5-2. Can Kennedy Catholic avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
