Baseball Game Preview: Gateway Eagles vs. Lehigh Lightning

The Gateway Eagles will challenge the Lehigh Lightning at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gateway is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.

Gateway is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Cape Coral just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Seahawks by a score of 6-5.

Otniel Diaz was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Diaz wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Antony Leiderman, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Sean Collins was another, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Lehigh lost 12-2 to Lely on Friday. The Lightning haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Gateway's loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Lehigh, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.
