Baseball Recap: Ulysses Tigers vs. Lakin Broncs
Ulysses had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-8 to make it eight. They lost 11-4 to the Lakin Broncs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Broncs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-8 on Thursday.
Alex Hostetler made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Dominic Sanchez, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.
As for Lakin, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-1. 11 seems to be a good number for they as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
On Lakin's side, Armondo Salcido made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Salcido was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabe Cox, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Cox is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Adrik Gomez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ulysses will challenge Goodland at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cowboys have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Lakin, they are taking a road trip to take on Sublette on Monday.
