Volleyball Recap: Cape Fear Academy Finds Playoff Glory Versus Coastal Christian

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Cape Fear Academy walked away with it. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Coastal Christian Centurions on Saturday, sneaking past 3-2. The victory was familiar territory for the Hurricanes, who have now won three contests in a row.

Cape Fear Academy had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 17-25, 14-25, 26-24, 26-24, 15-13.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cape Fear Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lila Hammer, who had 16 assists and 13 digs. Hammer has been hot for a while, having posted 12 or more assists the last 31 times she's played.

Cape Fear Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces every time they've taken the court this season.

When it comes to explaining why Coastal Christian lost, don't look at Pasey Hodges. Despite the final result, she had 38 digs and two aces.

Cape Fear Academy's record is now 15-5. As for Coastal Christian, their loss ended a three-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-12.

Coming up, Cape Fear Academy will face off against Wake Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Coastal Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
