Baseball Recap: Hunter Wolverines vs. Kearns Cougars
Hunter extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 28 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-24 in the process. They came up short against the Kearns Cougars, falling 12-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, with their most recent defeat being a 14-6 loss on Wednesday.
Hunter saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Thomas Woodruff, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
As for Kearns, their win ended a 12-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-20. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for them this season.
On Kearns' side, Boston Slaugh made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Slaugh has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI. He has become a key player for Kearns: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-20 otherwise.
In other batting news, Austin Durfee was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Chase Good, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
