Recap: Monroe Central Golden Bears vs. Yorktown Tigers
The Monroe Central Golden Bears came tearing into Thursday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 43-33 victory over Yorktown. 43 seems to be a good number for Monroe Central as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Monroe Central was led to victory by Kimber Abshear and Sydney Patterson. Abshear scored 9 points along with 11 rebounds and 4 blocks, while Patterson scored 16 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Patterson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Addy Puckett was another key contributor, scoring 6 points.
Yorktown's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lilly Sylvester, who scored 10 points along with 9 rebounds. The game was Sylvester's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Claire Hazen, who scored 10 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals.
Monroe Central's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Yorktown, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monroe Central will face off against South Adams at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Yorktown, they will head out on the road to face off against Mt. Vernon at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
