Softball Recap: Downingtown West Gets the Win

Downingtown West owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Monday. They came out on top against the Downingtown East Cougars by a score of 4-0. The Whippets haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Not much got past Kiri Weidner, who gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Downingtown East off the board. Weidner has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Downingtown West saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lillian O'Laughlin, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Ava Kaczmarski was another, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Downingtown West's record is now 14-2. As for Downingtown East, they dropped their record down to 7-9 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Downingtown West will take on rival Unionville at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Whippets 1.9, the Longhorns 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Downingtown East is set to square off against their familiar foe Great Valley at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
