Baseball Game Preview: Michigan Lutheran Seminary Cardinals vs. Ithaca Yellowjackets

Michigan Lutheran Seminary and Ithaca are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Cardinals will venture away from home to face off against the Yellowjackets at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Ithaca took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Michigan Lutheran Seminary, who comes in off a win.

On Friday, Michigan Lutheran Seminary earned a 7-2 win over Merrill.

Simeon Kober and Eli Lewis made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Kober pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Lewis struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. At bat, Kober scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Lewis scored a run while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Caleb Martin was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Noah Reif, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Ithaca was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Bullock Creek, falling 11-2.

Ithaca saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Collin Thrush, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Ryley White was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Ithaca's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Michigan Lutheran Seminary, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Michigan Lutheran Seminary took their win against Ithaca in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 11-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
