South Range and Cardinal Mooney are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Raiders will head out to challenge the Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
South Range not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 9th (when they won 11-0). They never let Garfield get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Raiders as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Mooney won against Springfield last Tuesday with 14 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Everything went the Cardinals' way against Liberty as they made off with a 14-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Cardinals, who have now won five games in a row.
Ben Oddis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Ford Stacy looked comfortable as he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.
Back at the plate, Kaden Reese was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Will Petty also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Cardinal Mooney always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .529 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Cardinal Mooney's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for South Range, their record now sits at 13-10.
Everything went South Range's way against Cardinal Mooney in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, as South Range made off with a 15-6 victory. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
