Softball Recap: Coronado Gets the Win

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Coronado had no problem doing just that on Friday. They never let the Mar Vista Mariners get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory. This was payback for the Islanders, who suffered a 2-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

The result came thanks to Quinn Smock's shutout, as she gave up just three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Krystal Davis, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Natalie Fay, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Coronado's win bumped their record up to 17-11-1. As for Mar Vista, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-13-2 record this season.

Coronado will square off against Mission Bay at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Islanders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Buccaneers have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. Mar Vista does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
