Softball Game Preview: Valley Central Vikings vs. Monticello Panthers

Valley Central is a perfect 4-0 against Monticello since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Panthers at 3:30 p.m. Valley Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

Valley Central took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over Saugerties.

Adrianna Ferraro was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Eleanor O'Neill was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Monticello was a bit more limited in their matchup on Monday. They lost 23-0 to Warwick. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost six in a row.

Monticello's loss dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Valley Central, their win bumped their record up to 8-6.

Monticello's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Valley Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .345. It's a different story for Monticello, though, as they've only averaged .132. Will they be able to contain Valley Central's hitters?

Valley Central took their victory against Monticello in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 13-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
