Baseball Game Preview: Belmont Cardinals vs. Mantachie Mustangs

For the second straight game, Belmont will face off against Mantachie. The Cardinals will host the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Having struggled with eight defeats in a row, Belmont turned things around against Mantachie on Tuesday. They never let the Mustangs get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory.

The result came thanks to Madden Wood's shutout, as he gave up just four hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Belmont is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-11 otherwise.

At the plate, Belmont's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Pharr, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Pharr also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Kohlyee Estes was another, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Belmont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mantachie only posted a batting average of .091.

Belmont's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 7-12. As for Mantachie, they dropped their record down to 6-12 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home.
