Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Carmel Sundevils vs. Southwest EC Eagles

Mt. Carmel is 0-3 against Southwest EC since May of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. Mt. Carmel will take on Southwest EC in a tournament on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Mt. Carmel 3.5, Southwest EC 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Southwest EC will be up against a hot Mt. Carmel team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Mt. Carmel walked away with an 8-4 victory over Poway on Friday. That four run margin sets a new team best for the Sundevils this season.

Shane Carter tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bryce Miller, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dylan Le, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Southwest EC has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 2.64 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Saturday. They came up short against El Camino, falling 11-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Eagles have suffered since March 16, 2024.

Mt. Carmel pushed their record up to 3-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Southwest EC, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-2.
