Football Recap: Raton Tigers vs. Tohatchi Cougars
Raton gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Tohatchi Cougars 41-0 at home.
Cannon Walton had a dynamite game for Raton, rushing for 128 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, while also throwing for 150 yards and three touchdowns. Walton's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards. Joseph Saenz was Walton's top target, rushing for 123 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
Saenz wasn't the only one working in the rushing yards department: Raton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 290 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Raton's defense and their three sacks. In that department, Wyatt Berry was the leader with two.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Raton will take on Lamar at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Tohatchi, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Newcomb at 7:00 p.m. on September 13th.
