Basketball Recap: Coronado Takes a Loss

Coronado lost against Eastwood back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Coronado Thunderbirds had to suffer through a 59-9 loss at the hands of the Eastwood Troopers. The match marked the Thunderbirds' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Zuleykha Chavarria was Coronado's leading scorer, having posted four points. Maria Paim held things down on the boards with five rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Eastwood to victory, but perhaps none more so than Abigail Ortega, who went 7 of 13 on her way to 14 points along with six boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Danika Sifuentes, who posted 11 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Coronado dropped their record down to 8-21 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Eastwood, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season.

Coronado wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 53-18 loss against Socorro on the 31st. As for Eastwood, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-51 victory against Montwood on the 31st.
