Basketball Recap: Kellam Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Kellam couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell just short of the Menchville Monarchs by a score of 57-54 on Tuesday. The Knights have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.

Kellam lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Kate Spain, who posted nine points in addition to seven assists and six boards. She has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Mia Spain was another key player, shooting 40% from the field on her way to 15 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Kellam's loss dropped their record down to 24-3. As for Menchville, the victory was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 25-1.

Kellam does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Menchville, they will take on Princess Anne at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Menchville knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 26 games -- so hopefully Princess Anne likes a good challenge.
