Basketball Game Preview: Evanston Devils vs. Riverton Wolverines

The Evanston Devils will take on the Riverton Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Evanston will be strutting in after a victory while Riverton will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Saturday, Evanston beat Jackson Hole 61-52. Given the Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' Wyoming basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while the Broncs are ranked 62nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Riverton came up short against Star Valley on Saturday and fell 57-47. The Wolverines have struggled against the Braves recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Evanston will have to contain Malachi Smith as he made an impact in Riverton's last game. He went 10 for 19 on his way to 28 points in addition to eight rebounds and five blocks. Smith is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for four straight games.

Evanston is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Riverton, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-9.

Evanston came up short against Riverton in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 59-50. Thankfully for Evanston, Parker Paxton (who posted 20 points and four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
