Baseball Game Preview: Paxton Bobcats vs. Bethlehem Wildcats

Paxton is a perfect 10-0 against Bethlehem since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Bobcats will face off against the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. Paxton has given up an average of 7.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Last Friday, Paxton came up short against Baker and fell 14-9.

Colby Vaiyanet made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. He has become a key player for Paxton: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Trevor Varnum, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Bethlehem had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Laurel Hill on Monday, sneaking past 9-8. The game was the first time the Wildcats have beaten the Hoboes on their field since April 28, 2022.

Bethlehem's win bumped their record up to 2-8. As for Paxton, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-6.

Paxton took their victory against Bethlehem in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 9-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bobcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
