2021-22 MaxPreps All-America Team: Dariq Whitehead of Montverde Academy headlines high school basketball's best

Gradey Dick, Nick Smith, Jarace Walker and Kel'el Ware join MaxPreps National Player of the Year on first team.

The MaxPreps All-America Team has recognized the top high school basketball players in the country each year since 2006. Past MaxPreps All-Americans include 2022 NBA All-Stars Devin Booker, DeMar DeRozan, Kevin Durant, Darius Garland, James Harden, Zach LaVine, Dejounte Murray, Jayson Tatum, Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins and Trae Young

Selections are based on team success, individual production and local, regional and state honors from the recently-completed season. Potential at the college and professional level is not a primary consideration. Players in post-graduate and non-scholastic programs are not eligible for inclusion.

First Team

6-7 | Senior | Wing | Kansas
NIBC Player of the Year averaged 18 points, 5.2 rebounds, two assists and two steals. Also shot 51.3 percent from the field and 46.7 percent from 3-point range to lead the Buffaloes to the NIBC title and the No. 2 spot in the National Top 20.

6-5 | Senior | Guard | Arkansas
Two-time MaxPreps Arkansas Player of the Year averaged 26.5 points, 8 rebounds and 7.3 assists to guide the Charging Wildcats to the AHSAA Class 6A state title and the No. 5 spot in the MaxPreps Top 25.



6-8 | Senior | Forward | Houston
Guided the Ascenders to the GEICO Nationals semifinals and No. 4 spot in the National Top 20, averaging 16.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.2 blocks while shooting 68 percent from the field.

Kel'el Ware, North Little Rock
7-0 | Senior | Center | Oregon
Highly regarded post prospect averaged 20.3 points, 12 rebounds and 5.7 blocks to help win the AHSAA Class 6A state title a No. 5 ranking and 27-3 record.

6-6 | Senior | Guard | Duke
MaxPreps National Player of the Year averaged 17.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists to guide the Eagles to the program's second consecutive GEICO Nationals title and third consecutive national title. Whitehead averaged 15.7 points, 5.7 assists and 3.0 rebounds over three games at GEICO Nationals.

Second Team

Keyonte George, IMG Academy
6-4 | Senior | Guard | Baylor
Helped Ascenders to the No. 4 spot in the National Top 20, averaging 17 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.5 steals. George averaged 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and three assists while shooting 58 percent from the field in a pair of games at GEICO Nationals.

6-7 | Senior | Guard | Kentucky
Top 10 prospect averaged 18.1 points, 9.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 54.6 percent from the field to lead the Warriors (33-8) to the No. 9 spot in the National Top 20.

6-8 | Senior | Wing | Alabama
First player to be named TSSAA Mr. Basketball in program history averaged 26.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.1 steals to lead the Rams (25-7) to the state quarterfinals. Miller ended career with over 2,100 points.

6-8 | Senior | Forward | Duke
Averaged 16 points, six rebounds and three assists while shooting 55 percent from the field to lead the Buffaloes (25-2) to the No. 2 spot in the National Top 20 and a GEICO Nationals berth.



6-4 | Senior | Guard | Kentucky
MaxPreps Texas Player of the Year averaged 19.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 2.4 steals to lead the Eagles (32-2) to the No. 8 spot in the MaxPreps Top 25.

Third Team

6-2 | Senior | Guard | New Mexico
MaxPreps California Player Of Year led the Huskies (33-1) to program's first CIF Open Division state title and the No. 2 spot in the final MaxPreps Top 25. Dent averaged 16.4 points, 6.7 assists and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 53 percent from the field.

7-1 | Senior | Center | Duke
Top ranked prospect in the Class of 2022 averaged 14 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks to lead the Moose (31-7) to their second consecutive PISAA state title.

Dillon Mitchell, Montverde Academy
6-7 | Senior | Wing | Texas
Helped the Eagles (22-4) to the GEICO Nationals title and top spot in the National Top 20 after averaging 11.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.4 blocks. Mitchell was named MVP of the City of Palms Classic in December.

6-7 | Senior | Wing | Arkansas
Averaged 10.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists as the Lions (34-2) finished No. 3 spot in the National Top 20. In three games, Walsh averaged 14.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists to lead Link Academy to the GEICO Nationals title game.

6-6 | Senior | Wing | Villanova
Five-star prospect averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists to lead the Cavaliers (25-10) to the Baltimore Catholic League tournament semifinals. Whitmore won Baltimore Catholic League Player of the Year twice.

6-8 | Senior | Forward | Undecided
MaxPreps New York Player of the Year averaged 17.6 points and 14 rebounds to guide the Cardinals (26-3) to the CHSAA Class AA title and the No. 7 in the MaxPreps Top 25.

6-5 | Senior | Guard | UCLA
Despite playing in 15 games while battling injuries, the five-star prospect averaged 18.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.4 steals to navigate the Trailblazers (26-5) to the CIF Open Division Southern Section title game.

6-7 | Senior | Wing | Arkansas
Missed nearly half of the season due to UIL rulings surrounding his transfer, Black was a key cog in big games during the Panthers' (35-1) national title run. He averaged 13 points, five rebounds, 3.5 assists and two steals and was named MVP of the UIL Class 6A state title game.

6-9 | Senior | Center | UCLA
Top 20 prospect averaged 15.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 2.5 assists to guide the Crew (26-7) to the No. 7 spot in the National Top 20. Bona was selected to both the McDonald's All-American Game and Jordan Brand Classic.

7-1 | Senior | Center | Connecticut
Piled up 52 points and 31 rebounds in a single game and averaged 29.9 points, 18.1 rebounds, 6.1 blocks and 3.1 assists to lead Central to its first state title since 1990. Clingan finished his career with 43 consecutive victories and 2,268 points.

Rylan Griffen, Richardson
6-5 | Senior | Guard | Alabama
Top 50 prospect averaged 20.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and three assists to lead the Eagles to the No. 8 spot in the final MaxPreps Top 25. Griffen finished his career with over 2,000 points.



Taylor Hendricks, Calvary Christian Academy (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)
6-9 | Senior | Forward | UCF
Earned tournament MVP honors at the State Champions Invitational after averaging 18.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks over a pair of blowout wins. Hendricks averaged 15 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.9 blocks on the season for the Eagles (26-2), who finished the year ranked No. 3 nationally.

Ronald Holland, Duncanville
6-8 | Junior | Forward | Undecided
Led the Panthers (35-1) to the MaxPreps National Title, averaging 15.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and two steals. Holland poured in a game-high 28 points with six rebounds in an early season signature win over No. 2 Centennial.

6-9 | Junior | Forward | North Carolina
Averaged 22.1 points, 10.9 rebounds and 2.3 blocks to lead the Blazers (20-11) to the SCHSL Class AAAAA state title. Jackson is regarded as the No. 8 overall prospect in the Class of 2023.

M.J. Rice, Prolific Prep
6-5 | Senior | Guard | Kansas
Although Rice missed the McDonald's All-American Game and GEICO Nationals due to injury, he was a consistent force for the Crew (26-7), averaging a team-high 20.5 points with 5.5 rebounds and three assists.

Tarris Reed Jr., Link Academy
6-9 | Senior | Center | Michigan
Averaged 9.3 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks while providing an elite interior presence to help the first-year program finish the season ranked No. 3 in the National Top 20 with a 34-2 record.

Malik Reneau, Montverde Academy
6-8 | Senior | Forward | Undecided
Played a dominant role in the paint to lead the Eagles (22-4) to the program's third straight national title, averaging 14.3 points and 8.3 rebounds in GEICO Nationals play. One of the top remaining unsigned seniors averaged 11.9 points and 6.6 rebounds this season.

6-4 | Senior | Guard | Notre Dame
Averaged 17.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists to lead the Lakers (21-5) to the No. 5 spot in the final National Top 20. Starling was named to the NIBC all-conference first team and earned MaxPreps Indiana Player of the Year honors.



6-3 | Junior | Guard | Undecided
Top-ranked junior prospect averaged 19.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 3.3 assists to guide Camden (31-3) to its first Tournament of Champions title game appearance since 2000. The Panthers finished the season ranked No. 9 in MaxPreps Top 25 rankings.

6-4 | Junior | Guard | North Carolina
Led the Lions (29-2) to the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions title after averaging 17.5 points, 7.1 assists and 6.5 rebounds. Wilcher produced 22 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the Tournament of Champions title game.
