Volleyball Recap: Padua Franciscan Starts Season with Win Against Archbishop Hoban

Padua Franciscan gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They won by a set and slipped past the Archbishop Hoban Knights 3-2. This was payback for the Bruins, who suffered a 3-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Padua Franciscan was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (103-95), but they still managed to win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 20-25, 10-25, 25-20, 15-12.

Padua Franciscan's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Giulia Reginelli, who had 16 digs and six assists. Those six assists gave Reginelli a new career-high. Cathryn Ruggiero was another key player, getting 15 digs and three aces.

Looking ahead, Padua Franciscan will welcome Magnificat at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Archbishop Hoban, they will head out on the road to take on Copley at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
