Softball Recap: Madison's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Wednesday

Madison managed to slip by Edgewood the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Blue Streaks lost 7-1 to the Warriors on Wednesday. The Blue Streaks' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Kara Mekulsia put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Mekulsia wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gianna LaMarco, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base.

Madison's loss dropped their record down to 9-2. As for Edgewood, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Madison will square off against rival Perry at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Blue Streaks 2.8, the Pirates 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Edgewood is set to take on their familiar foe Jefferson Area at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
