Preview: Northeast Eagles vs. Dickson County Cougars
The Northeast Eagles just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Dickson County Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Tennessee (Northeast is ranked 321st, while Dickson County is ranked 303rd).
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 61-32, which was the final score in Northeast's tilt against Northwest on Thursday. Northeast was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-11.
Qimara Summers put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Dickson County fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They beat Kenwood on Tuesday by the very same score they won with last week: 49-38.
Dickson County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Keely Webb, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two blocks. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Webb has scored at least a third of Dickson County's points. Jenna Saine was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals and two blocks.
This is the second loss in a row for Northeast and nudges their season record down to 8-13. As for Dickson County, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-19.
Friday's game is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Northeast have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Dickson County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Northeast took a serious blow against Dickson County when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 90-18. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Northeast was down 46-9.
